Bet You Didn't Know This About Me

I love pictures! From an early age, I have always been fascinated with photography. I use to run and grab my camera whenever a storm was coming into town. Some of my favorite pictures are the ones of the beautiful contrasts of coloring within the sky. I have several pictures of flowers, the ocean, the buildings in New York City and Chicago. When Joshua and Abby Kate were born, my love for photography really took off. If you have ever been to my house (or visited my blog), you can tell that I am just a bit obsessed with pictures. To me, my pictures tell a story. They capture our lives and the events taking place. My pictures mean so much to me.

Last week, Jason's computer crashed. We were afraid that we had lost everything (this included ALL of our pictures), but were very hopeful that the "computer wizards" could retrieve our files. (Just a side note here, I do not need a lecture about backing up your files. This is all stuff that I know about and try to do, but its just been a bit crazy around our house over the past, lets say, 3 years!!!) We had heard countless success stories of these computer guys getting it "all back". Fortunately, Jason backed up all of our photo library this past May. However, we had not backed up anything since. Well, Jason got the call that his hard drive was completely fried. Yep, that meant we lost ALL of our pictures. Every picture that we took of the kids this summer. Every pregnancy picture. Every picture from June 11, 2007 - the birth of Jackson!!! The picture of him being born. The picture of him on the scales. The picture of me seeing my baby for the first time! The picture of Jason holding Jackson for the first time. The pictures of all of my family holding and seeing Jackson. The pictures of Joshua and Abby Kate meeting their baby brother for the first time. All of the pictures of Jackson in the hospital. The pictures of us leaving the hospital. The pictures of us coming home. The pictures of our family within the first weeks of Jackson coming home. The pictures of Joshua and Abby Kate's 3rd birthday! I have shed many tears and I know that more will follow. I still have my memories and we have it all on video. I just wish that I had those pictures to share with Jackson.

I saw this on Jason's computer and could just cry for you. It seems so unreal. The same thing happened to a friend of mine over the summer and we were all scrambling to get her all the pictures that she had emailed to us. Ugh!

Another prop to the ol' blog - you have a lot of great ones on there! Thank goodness for that!

My heart just sank for ya'll when I read it on Jason's blog. I am so sorry, Sunny. I am the same way about pictures. I've already thought about if we were to have a fire I would want to grab my pictures over anything else (after all of my kids were out, of course). I am really sorry.

That is so sad! I really feel for you...even though I don't have my pictures hanging on my walls :) ) I totally understand how you feel about them.

I thought Jason said "some pics of Jackson"--I didn't know it was ALL pics of Jackson!! I am SO sorry!

As Tracy already said, it's a great thing you have both been great about posting--this tells me that your most favorite ones have been put out here for us to see and ultimately saved so that you can have some too...

Do your parents have many?
I'll look through and send you ANYTHING I have of your kids this summer...

I'm so sorry! I am a fellow picture-holic... you should see the walls in my house. We need to move just to have room for more when the new baby gets here! When Grant was born, my mom had been given the task of recording his birth (from by my head of course). When we went to watch it later, we couldn't find it anywhere. It was not on the tape! We thought she forgot to push record. Come to find out, she somehow recorded it on the video camera's memory card instead of on the tape. So... we have it, but it is horrible quality, but I had that same horrible feeling when I thought it was gone!

I, too, am bad about backing up the computer, so instead, I just fill up a memory card, then burn it onto cds before clearing the card and starting over. It may not really be easier, but it seems to be for me!

I'm so sorry. That is heartbreaking, but like everyone else has said, at least you have been good about blogging and can save the ones you have left from there.

Did you possibly email any to family and friends that they could email back?

Sunny, I am so sorry. I was really hoping that they could be recovered. I know how hard this is for you. We will look and see if we have pictures of you guys on our computer.

My heart goes out to you, Sunny. I wonder if you could take your video somewhere and have them freeze frames for pictures?

I don't back up mine, either. I take too many (sounds like we have the same addiction)!

I look forward to seeing you Sunday!
