Wow! Look At The Size Of That Ear!

Joshua got bit by a mosquito last night! When I dropped him off at Preschool this morning, I quickly noticed that his ear was a little red. I was called a few hours later by the director. She said that his ear was really red and starting to swell. I immediately went to pick him up and could not believe the size of his ear! I scheduled an appointment with the doctor just to make sure everything was okay. Joshua spent the rest of the morning running errands with me and Jackson. We ate lunch at McDonald's. Afterwards, we ran over to the play area at the mall. When we saw the doctor, he said, "Wow! I've never seen an ear that big before". He reassured me and said that some kids just respond that way to mosquito bites. Something to do with the saliva of the mosquito. Apparently, he is allergic to mosquitos! He gave us some Allegra and sent us on our way. We have all gotten mosquito bites this past week. We've killed two, but I guess that we have more in the house. Any ideas on how to keep the mosquitos away?
Abby Kate and Joshua wore their Titan's outfits to school today. Of course, I took a picture!

He looks like that kid from Pinocchio.

You can put dryer sheets in a kid's jean pocket or safety pin it onto their clothing and it will keep the mosquitoes away. Hope went to an outdoor birthday party. When I picked her up, all the kids had them in their back pocket. It works!

We are all going to bed with dryer sheets tonight! Thanks for the tip.

Both of my ears stick out like that, and I didn't even get bit by a mosquito! :)

Good tip to know about dryer sheets...I'll have to mentally file that away.

That is incredible. Was it not itching? Poor thing those mosquitoes are awful, they tear May and I up too.

I think Isaiah might be allergic too. His bites swell to the size of golf balls. Hope Joshua can get some relief soon. Did the medicine help?

I checked just to see if you had posted a pic! After talking to you and being confident that Joshua's "condition" was nothing serious, all I could do was laugh!!! Poor little thing, but it's pretty funny!

My kids both swell up huge when they are bitten too, but they haven't been bitten on the ear!

Hope it's better today!

I'm definitely gonna try the dryer sheet thing...I have never ever heard that before!!

I got a kick out of that picture, Sunny. I didn't know what was going on when it came up at first. Like Stacy said, I'm laughing now...after nothing that it's nothing serious. It's cute, too, because he's smiling so big...he could care less about his big ear. Adults don't handle things like that as well as kids do. The picture of Joshua and Abby Kate is cute, too...even with his ear sticking out. :) Glad to know about the dryer sheets.

Laura - I asked him yesterday if his ear was itching and he said no. When I asked if it tickled, he smiled and said yeah. I told him not to scratch (tickle) it and he tried his hardest not to.

Sherri - The doctor had told me to give him a dose when we left. He also told me that if I did not see any changes to give it to him at 8 (the medicine is a 24 hour thing). I ended up giving him that other dose before bed last night. His ear looks better today, but it is still swollen. He hasn't been scratching it. The doctor said that it could take 3 days to return to normal.

Anna - Jason asked me to take another picture of the kids together, but to switch their places. I tried getting that same pose, but they did not cooperate. Oh well, just a great story to go with the picture.

I had no idea a mosquito could do that to an ear... yowsa! Good thing he's 3, not 13 or he'd probably care a whole lot more about how it looks. Poor little guy.

Ashley, I laugh so hard every time I see that HUGE ear! One day he will be mortified at this picture, but for now, we all just sometimes need a good laugh.

I just wanted to say thanks for this post! At 10pm last night we were freaking out looking at the size of our 6mo old daughters ear http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y37/notmyboyfriendscar/?action=view&current=DSCN0388.jpg
And it was nice to see that the swelling was totally normal! Thanks!!!

Sally, thanks for leaving me a comment. We were really shocked with how big my little guy's ear got. I was very relieved to hear that it was completely normal. After we realized that he was okay, we totally found it funny!
