Potty Talk

Joshua has been potty trained since March! He has done and continues to do a fabulous job. May I highly recommend the Baby Bjorn Potty Chair for all of you mommies of boys! It does its job quite well. I have been starting to wonder when I should put the potty chair up. I must admit, I am getting a little tired of the little white potty sitting in the kids' bathroom. I am also a bit tired of dumping it out and cleaning it after each use. I know, I know, this makes me sound really lazy, but I am looking for any and all ways to make this ship move a little quicker. Abby Kate loves to use the "big" potty and uses her stool to reach it. I do not have to assist Abby Kate or Joshua with using the potty at all. Now I'm only called in to wipe! I always love it when I hear, "Mommy, come wipe me!!!" Which makes me question - when can I stop wiping my children's bottoms? Anyways, back to my original thought. When can I put away the potty chair? Joshua is the only one that uses it. If I take away his throne, he will have to learn to use the big potty. I have a feeling that this will be quite a messy process for my little boy. I don't want to create more work, but I am still really tired of that potty chair and all that I have to do to keep it clean. So, what would you do?

Lesson #1: Never mess with a man's throne. Leave him be.

I know you've read my potty tales, and we're still not totally there. We actually had a major disaster last Sunday at Elisabeth and J. Mac's house that's best left to the imaginiation.... BUT that being said, our potty chair has been gone for several weeks. Grant much prefers standing on his stool to do his business and doing the other in the little potty was never an option given to him (I couldn't stomach the thought of cleaning it)! They can make messes, but let him throw a cheerio (or goldfish) in to aim at until he's used to it. That works for us most of the time.

I have no advice since we are only just now starting to have success with the potty. Just curious though, what do you do when you are out somewhere (i.e. at church, out shopping, etc)? I'm wondering about this myself and dreading using the public restrooms with a toddler.

Alice, I really dreaded what I would do while out in public with the kids. At church, we have little potties and they are perfect for Joshua. He has never had any trouble using them (he can actually stand). When we are at other places, I will either hold him up high enough to make it or I will cover the seat with LOTS of tp. If he sits, I have to make sure that his legs are tight and everything is pointing down. Jason told me the other day that he will let Joshua stand on his shoes to reach the potty. I get so disgusted with the public potties. I make sure that we wash up really well after we are done. When Joshua and Abby Kate were first learning to potty, I felt like all I did was take them potty. It was much worse being away from home, but it is okay now. My favorite time was when I had waited a good 10 minutes in line to check out and when it was my turn, Joshua started dancing and insisted that he needed to potty. I had to take him and then I waited even longer to check out. Good luck!

Wow. I'm not ready for all this.
